Develop and Support Students

McMaster’s Experiential Learning Strategic Framework (2024-2029) is a blueprint created for and by McMaster staff, students, and educators to advance accessible, inclusive and transformative learning experiences. This page outlines one of seven strategies within the framework and its expected outcomes.

Develop and Support Our Students

Expected Outcome:

Students: a) have flexible opportunities for participation; b) feel supported before, during, and after their experience; and c) are recognized and celebrated.

Key Activities:

5.1 Establish policy and processes to ensure students are recognized (e.g., credit, financially, etc.) for their involvement in multiple types of EL at McMaster (e.g., curricular, co-curricular).

5.2 Review, update, and create risk management policies as they relate to various aspects of experiential learning to ensure students are supported at all stages of EL.

5.3 Develop wrap-around infrastructure to ensure students in all programs and Faculties have access to multiple, flexible EL opportunities throughout their time at McMaster in a manner that combats systemic barriers to EL access and provides space for students to experiment and learn from mistakes.
