Develop and Sustain Infrastructure

McMaster’s Experiential Learning Strategic Framework (2024-2029) is a blueprint created for and by McMaster staff, students, and educators to advance accessible, inclusive and transformative learning experiences. This page outlines one of seven strategies within the framework and its expected outcomes.

Develop and Sustain Infrastructure that Formalizes Ad Hoc Processes, Institutional Knowledge, and Best Practices

Expected Outcome:

EL opportunities are adequately resourced and available to target number of students in each Faculty and across McMaster.

Key Activities:

3.1 Develop, stipulate, and expand shared working definitions and criteria to allow the variety of meaningfully different experiences to be recognized, celebrated, grouped, and supported in the right ways.

3.2 Develop an institutional quality matrix for experiential learning at McMaster, that acknowledges the different “depths” of experiential learning experiences across all typologies and their associated resource implications.

3.3 Establish budget models and approaches to supporting different depths of EL that reflect best practices at McMaster and beyond.

3.4 Work with the Faculties to establish a baseline of EL opportunities to determine appropriate growth targets for new opportunities that can support Faculty priorities.

3.5 Develop and resource targeted EL opportunities within courses and programs in alignment with Faculty and University EL targets.
