Message from Provost Tighe: Welcome to the Fall Term
This message was first published in the September 2023 Newsletter from the Office of the Provost
——
I am delighted to welcome you back to McMaster where our campus community is brought together by our shared pursuit of academic excellence.
This highest of standards can only be achieved and maintained when the people who make our university great feel valued, safe and have opportunities to connect and collaborate.
An important part of feeling valued is having what you need to realize your goals as a faculty or staff member.
This is the inaugural newsletter from the Office of the Provost. I want to share with you information that you can use in your day-to-day activities as you work toward accomplishing your goals.
This issue includes the ongoing work to better understand the role of generative AI in the classroom as well as a new website curated by the deputy provost with resources for faculty at every stage of their careers. Thanks to everyone who is involved in these initiatives and to everyone who contributed ideas and feedback.
As always, safety is our top priority. I hope that you had a chance to read my message sent last week reminding everyone to download McMaster’s Safety App and to continue nurturing our campus culture of safety and well-being where we feel comfortable reporting anything we see that may be concerning.
Finally, I believe that the teamwork, collegiality and interdisciplinary partnerships that happen across our campus are the catalyst for the outstanding teaching and learning and research that originates here and goes on to make an impact in local communities, across our country and around the globe.
I look forward to seeing many of you throughout the year. It is wonderful to visit classrooms and labs to meet the people that make McMaster such a special place.
I wish you a terrific fall term on our beautiful campus.
Susan Tighe
Provost and Vice-President (Academic)
