Student Mental Health: Supporting Our Students' WellbeingSupporting Our Faculty and Staff's Wellbeing
The Provost is committed to supporting Faculty and Staff mental health and wellbeing through initiatives like the McMaster Okanagan Committee Mental Health and Wellbeing Task Force. This Task Force, formed at the request of the Provost, will make short and long-term recommendations to the university around mental health education, programming, and policies affecting McMaster’s staff, students and faculty.
Employees can also access mental health counselling and life, wellbeing and career coaching through the Employee and Family Assistance Program.

The Provost is committed to investing time, resources and strategic thinking into making our campus community more equitable, diverse and inclusive. - Interactional capabilities & climate
Recently, the Equity and Inclusion Office has launched a Student Census and Experience Survey to help shape the future of student-centred programs and services, initiated a cohort hiring of 12 Black faculty members, partnered with the MacPherson Institute to develop an Inclusive Teaching Guide, and much more.
Equity, Diversity and Inclusion: Making McMaster more inclusiveTeaching Innovation
In May of 2021, under the direction of the Vice-Provost, Teaching and Learning, McMaster launched it’s first-ever Teaching & Learning Strategy. This strategy is focused on fostering partnerships across and beyond campus to create engaging, challenging and meaningful learning experiences for students. It focuses on four impact areas:
- Partnered and Interdisciplinary Learning
- Inclusive and Scholarly Teaching
- Active and Flexible Learning Spaces
- Holistic and Personalized Student Experience
The objectives in these areas are intended to inspire instructors to innovate in their teaching, support and reward student curiosity, create accessible and inclusive learning environments, and build interdisciplinarity between Faculties and departments.
