The Dean of Graduate Studies provides the leadership and support for all graduate programs and is responsible for maintaining and improving the standards and policies of graduate scholarship within the University. Responsibilities include chairing the Graduate Council and acting as its voice in Senate, organizing doctoral dissertation defenses and selecting external examiners, and ensuring the integrity and efficient operation of the graduate registry including admissions and graduate student academic records.

Other responsibilities include representing the University at the Ontario Council on Graduate Studies (OCGS), as well as in other external organizations as required. The Dean of Graduate Studies serves on the appointments and promotions committees in each Faculty, as well as on the Senate Committee on Appointments.
