McMaster launches search for next Dean of the Faculty of Science

An international search is now underway to appoint McMaster University’s next dean of the Faculty of Science, guided by a transparent process designed to reflect the priorities of the Faculty and the broader university community.
The appointment is anticipated to begin July 1, 2026. The position became open when the former dean, Maureen MacDonald, was appointed provost.
A Selection Committee representing faculty, staff, students and university leadership was convened by the Office of the Provost to lead the search. The committee has helped shape the position profile by gathering input from across the community and will play a central role in assessing candidates.
To support a broad and diverse candidate pool, McMaster has partnered with executive search firm KBRS, recognized for its experience in recruiting academic leaders across Canada and internationally. This structured, consultative approach is intended to ensure fairness, openness and alignment with the Faculty’s needs and aspirations.
McMaster’s Faculty of Science is one of the largest in Canada, with more than 8,400 undergraduate and 550 graduate students, supported by more than 200 full-time faculty members across eight departments and schools.
Reporting to the provost and vice-president (Academic), the dean will provide academic and strategic leadership for the Faculty, strengthening research and teaching excellence, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and cultivating a positive, inclusive environment for faculty, staff and students.
The dean will also work closely with other Faculties and units and serve as a key member of the provost’s senior leadership group.
